Currently there are no community based food banks available within walking distance of Gilchrist, and no public transportation available to our main food pantry in La Pine. We are trying to provide basic food needs for families that currently have limited to no access to healthy foods. Individuals and families in rural Central Oregon that are experiencing hunger and a lack of resources will be provided equitable access to nutritious food, at no charge, within their own community. By providing grocery boxes, it will help reduce food insecurity, help improve overall health, create community connection, and release money being spent on groceries to be spent on other necessities such as housing, or utilities.
