A Good Idea
Description
In its 60 year existence, the Omaha Housing Authority (OHA) has been noted for its creative and successful approaches to improving the quality of life and self-sufficiency of its impoverished residents in the Omaha metropolitan area. Through partnerships with several local public and private organizations, OHA offers a variety of on-site supportive services in the areas of job training; transportation; employment; programming for youth; health and medical services for expectant mothers and children; service coordination for the elderly; case management; and drug elimination.
Goal / Mission
The Omaha Housing Authority's goal is to provide quality housing for those who receive assistance through rental and homeownership programs.
Results / Accomplishments
Results include the following:
-283 homes purchased for scattered site housing
-200 youth served daily in summer by youth center
-75 percent of adults in FastTrack basic skills class in 1995 graduated
